My Perspective: Beaver Football 2005

I just thought I’d get out my predictions for the 2005 season before it starts. More elaboration coming on each game as it nears.
Sept 3rd: Portland State
I say the Beavs take this game. Playing for the first time in remodeled Reser Stadium, they’re dying for the win. The Beavers will get somewhat of a running game going against PSU’s new Defensive Line, and Matt Moore at QB will have some big plays to Mike Hass and the rest of the receivers. I’m thinking Beavers win 24-10.
Sept 10: Boise State
I’m thinking this is going to be a close game. Boise State Qb Jared Zabranski will pose a challenge for the OSU Defense. The Beavs have to have revenge in mind as last year the Beavers lost 53-34 in Boise. A key game for Oregon State if they want to get to a bowl. I say Beavers edge this one out with all 43,000 fans behind them.
Sept 17: at Lousiville
The Beavers have nothing to lose against the Cardinals, as they are ranked 12th in the AP pool and 14th in the Coaches Poll. The 2004 11-1 Cardinals ran for 3,005 yards and 47 TD’s last season. They led the nation in total offense and scoring all while setting a record with 50 points in 5 consecutive games. Six players were drafted, but the leftovers are still pretty good. I really want the Beavers to pull this one out on ESPN, but I don’t think that Beaver Nation will be that dissapionted after OSU makes a good showing against Louisville.
Sept 24: ASU
The Sun Devils will probley be favored, but these are the kinds of games the Beavers can win at home. Although ASU has won 11 of the last 13 games, I think that this game will be close, but after playing Louisville and Boise State back to back, I don’t know how much go juice the Beavers will have left.
Oct 1: Washington State
With several Cougar friends, I have to pick the Beavers in this one. Another critical game for the Beavers if they want to make a bowl apperance. Last years result: Beavers 38-19
October 15: at Cal

A week of practice before Cal a good idea. Cal should prove to be tough, but the game is winnable for OSU if they play error-free football.

Oct 22: at UCLA

OSU hasn’t played at UCLA since 2000, when they won on their way to a 11-1 record and a #4 National Ranking. There will be added emotion for OSU QB Matt Moore as he plays against his former teamates and head coach Karl Dorrell.

October 29: Arizona

Another must win for the Beavers. The Wildcats were projected for the end of the chart this season, but still they aren’t going to be a gurranteed win.

Nov 5: Washington State

The Huskies aren’t going to be bad for long so the Beavers better beat them and get it out of the way.

Nov 12: Stanford

Hmm… Stanford projected last in the Pac 10 by Ken Goe of the Oregonian, but they still should put up a fight in Reser.

Nov 19: at Oregon

The home team has won the last 8 Civil Wars… so what? The Beavers can still take the Ducks in Autzen. Just wait until next year when the game’s at Reser. Although the Ducks can still feel the bruise from last year’s 50-21 beating in the Civil War, It’s going to come down to who gets the best start.
