Serna and Hass Award Finalists

Oregon State University senior receiver Mike Hass has been selected as one of
three finalists for the 11th annual Biletnikoff Award and sophomore Alexis Serna
is one three finalists for the 14th annual Lou Groza Award. Both
student-athletes will be traveling to Orlando for the 15th annual ESPN College
Football Awards Show, Thurs., Dec. 8.
Hass is Oregon State’s all-time leading receiver and is currently second
all-time in the Pac-10 Conference with 3,924 yards. He also set a conference
record with 1,532 yards this season. Hass owns school records for career
receptions (220), single season receptions (90/2005), and shares the record for
career receiving touchdowns with James Newson (20). He is the only receiver in
Pac-10 history with three 1,000-yards plus seasons. Hass also is the nation’s
leading receiver for average per game this season at 139.3 yards.

The two other finalists for the Biletnikoff Award are USC’s Dwayne Jarrett and Notre Dame’s Jeff Samardzija. Jarrett has 1,070 yards on 75 receptions this season
while Samardzija has 999 yards on 63 receptions.

Serna has been successful on 23 of 28 field goal attempts and converted all 32 extra point attempts this season. He was selected as one of three Lou Groza Award Stars of the Week three times this season and was the Pac-10 Special Teams Player of the
Week after matching the conference record with six field goals in the team’s
victory at Washington. Serna is the active leader in the NCAA for career field
goal percentage at 83.3 (40-48) and currently leads all NCAA kickers with 101
points. He also tied a school record by making 15 consecutive field goals this
season.

Serna will be joined in Orlando by the two other finalists, junior Mason Crosby of Colorado and junior Jad Dean of Clemson. Crosby has converted 19 of 24 field goals for the season and has made five field goals of 50 or more yards. Dean is 22 of 29 for the season, including a school record six in a win over Texas A&M.

Hass and Serna represent the first two Oregon State football student-athletes to ever be invited to the Football Awards Show.
