Erickson, 58, declined to comment on the status of his candidacy yesterday or what might happen next.

He acknowledged interest in the position and said, “They’ve got a process I’m sure they’re going through right now. I can’t comment on anything because that’s their deal.”

Erickson said he has not been talking to Colorado, which also is searching for a new head coach. He was out of coaching this past season after being let go by the San Francisco 49ers last year. He also coached the Seattle Seahawks (1995-98), the University of Miami (Fla.) and Oregon State, where he posted the best season in school history in 2000, when the Beavers went 11-1. At Miami from 1989-94, his record was 63-9, including two national championships.
